Rotorua is such a big tourist town and it’s easy to see why. Thermal activity is a must see and with so much of it going on throughout Rotorua, it’s hard to miss. There’s a huge array of activities and attractions for little and big kids, stunning lakes, and walks that the whole family will love.

 

Weather

Rotorua has an annual average of 2117 sunshine hours and an average annual rainfall of 1400mm over 118 days which is spread throughout the year, with the winter months receiving slightly more.

January and February are the driest months. The warmest month in Rotorua is February, with an average high-temperature of 22.9°C (73.2°F) and an average low-temperature of 13°C (55.4°F).

The coldest month in Rotorua is July, with an average high-temperature of 12°C (53.6°F) and an average low-temperature of 3.5°C (38.3°F). June has the most rainfall, falling for 11.2 days and accumulating 136.1mm. 

Rotorua is inland and sheltered by mountains in the south and east, this means it gets less wind than many other places in New Zealand.

Activities

There’s a huge range of fun activities in Rotorua to keep you busy for a good ling time. From the Gondola and Luge, the Agrodome, Paradise Valley Springs Wildlife Park and Canopy Tours just to name a few.

Walking tracks will take you to waterfalls, caves, to amazing views, around lakes and a favourite, through the Redwoods.

There lots of geothermal activity going on in Rotorua, a highlight to your trip and what makes Rotorua a hot spot for tourists. There are lots of places where you can go for a wonderfully relaxing dip in natual and warm creeks. Rotorua is also a great place to come to experience Maori culture.

Rotorua is surrounded by beautiful lakes to swim and walk around. Bring the boat or take a water taxi to experience it more.

Rotorua is a fantastic place to come whatever the season, there’s always something to do.
