About | Lavender Abbey
People come from all over New Zealand when Lavender Abbey announces their ‘Pick Your Own Lavender’ days in January, eager to experience a lavender field, take some amazing photos and leave with handfuls of beautifully scented lavender.
Walk down the rows of lavender, immersed with bees, and enjoy the incredible aroma. Bees, did you say? Yes, but they’re too busy doing their own work to mind you. This, in itself, is a cool experience for the kids.
Bring a picnic rug, some friends and family and don’t forget the camera for some great shots out in Lavender Abbey’s lifestyle property.

The first thing we noticed when arriving at Lavender Abbey was the bees. There were so many of them, both bumblebees and honey bees!
Some of the kids there wouldn’t go in after seeing them and others took on the challenge and walked right on through – slowly at first – but after gaining the trust of the bees and working out for themselves that they were really too busy to even take notice of us, began to be at ease.
Ashton even, by the end of it, was sitting down by the lavender, totally immersed in watching the life of the bees and how they go about doing their thing. Never being to a lavender field before, it was really great that we could be there and experience it as a family.
