About | Kohi Point Lookout
If you love a good view but can’t be bothered walking up a big hill to get it, then the Kohi Point Lookout is perfect for you. Travel down Kohi Point Lookout Road and when you reach the end, step out and check out the view.
Amazing views can be taken in, across Whakatane and beyond, you can see the harbour, the shops and Whakatane Heads down below. Even better, bring a picnic and enjoy some good food with good company surrounded by amazing views. Watch as life goes by, cars moving about and boats slowly making their way back into the harbour. It’s a spectacular spot to enjoy the views.
As you wander around, you’ll notice that there’s a walking track. This is part of the Kohi Point Walk – a 7km walk that takes you through the bush and onto the beach, offering stunning views along the way. The Kohi Point Walk can link onto a larger 16km walk – Ngā Tapuwae o Toi, or the ‘Footprints of Toi’.

Beautiful scenery, we really enjoyed the Kohi Point Lookout but only found out about it while passing through and seeing the sign. Happy we stopped, we stretched our legs while taking it all in, only thing that could have made it better would have been a nice packed picnic lunch because we could have easily stayed longer.
Wandering a little further we noticed that this was actually a part of the Ngā Tapuwae o Toi Walkway and seeing the views we would definitely come back again to take this walk on!
As we continued on with our drive down to Ohope Beach, we found a few other viewpoints looking out towards the ocean and to the beach below.
