About | Newdicks Beach

If you’re wanting to get away from the crowds, then Newdicks Beach is where it’s at. Just 30 minutes from Tauranga, donate a small fee to enter this wonderful paradise, and you’ll most probably have a good section of it to yourself.

You’ll need to pass through a privately owned gravel road to get there and a small fee ($5 for a car and $8 for a motorhome) helps with maintenance of the road and carpark. Bring some coins and leave it in the honesty box before heading through. There’s a big area for you to park your vehicle.

There’s not much here in the way of amenities, just the wonderful sound of the crashing waves and kilometres of beautiful white sand to play on. There is a long drop, but it only has a very flimsy cover for the door – but really it doesn’t cover much. It wouldn’t be nice to use if the place was busy but the boys got away with it just fine seeing as no one was around.

The rolling waves bring the surfers and boogie boarders. The little ones will enjoy exploring the expansive beach and playing in the sand. Bring a towel to relax on and lap up the rays. The cliffs make a beautiful backdrop.

Opening times: Open daily in summer, 6am to 6pm. And in winter, 9am – 5pm. Gates are locked after this time.

After spending lots of time in Tauranga and always feeling like we’re battling with the crowds, whether it be finding parking or a spot on the beach, Newdicks Beach came as a welcome delight and we felt like we were discovering something not many people knew about. The car park only had a few others cars parked in it and there were only a few people scattered across the beach or catching waves. We felt very spoilt indeed. The kids played in the sand and Sam even went in for a swim.
