About | One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill, which is situated in Cornwall Park, is a lovely place to come with the family. Hang out at the playground below, have a picnic on the grass, then either walk or drive further up the hill to enjoy the views.

If you’ve got little ones that won’t enjoy a walk up I’d suggest driving further up – it’s all uphill from there.

As you walk up to the top, you’ll spot lots of sheep grazing under the trees. Drive slowly in the park and look for any sheep crossing – there are around 600 sheep roaming in the park. I think this is what makes this place extra special. Come during spring (July – September) and you’ll see lambs as well.

At the top, you can enjoy 360-degree views of Auckland. See if you can spot the Sky Tower, Rangitoto or where you live or are staying.

If you’re wondering how it got its name, it’s because it once had one Totara tree sitting right at the top. Later it was replaced with a pine tree but after being attacked by vandels two times, it was cut down and a monument was put next to it instead.

The park is also a great place to come for walkers and runners, the trails in the park beautiful and well maintained. It’s a great way to discover some of the 8000 trees here and see the birdlife.

Cornwall Park is a lovely place to come together with family and friends. There are BBQ’s set up around the park. Bring a ball and some games – there’s plenty of room to run around in.

Visit the Cornwall Park Information Centre for more park information, brochures, historic displays and exhibitions.

Bring a packed lunch, some water, a camera and walking shoes.

Free entry.
