About | Long Bay Regional Park

Long Bay Regional Park is a great place for families, with lots of space to run around in, a cool playground and the beach to explore.

There’s a wonderful walking and biking track that goes along the headland, offering great views of the Hauraki Gulf and ending at the Okura River. There are two beaches along the way, grab some lunch and have a picnic along the way. It’s a 2.5-hour walk.

The water is safe to swim in and also a marine reserve (so no fishing).

There’s plenty of trees providing shade and the perfect spot to lay a picnic blanket down. This is a popular place for a picnic, there’s lots of room to move around in so bring a ball to kick around, too. There are also BBQ’s, picnic tables and a seating area.

If you’re wandering around and come across an old house, this would be the original 1863 farm homestead. It’s a nicely restored building now and open for visitors.

There’s heaps of parking. Park next to the roundabout if you’ve got kids eager to check out the playground.

There are a few toilet blocks along the park.

On a summer’s day, this beach is fantastic for swimming, but as it was winter, we kept to the playground and explored the rocks.

The boys really enjoyed the stepping stones and rope walk, practicing their balancing skills. The park has lovely pohutukawa trees throughout it creating lots of good shady areas. There are also a few drinking fountains for when the kids get thirsty.

After heading along the beach we get to the rocks and explore the coastline, making our way further up. We went at low tide so we were able to walk all the way around to the other beach.
