About | Omaha Beach
Omaha Beach, translated to Maori, means ‘place of pleasure’ and it’s spot on. Omaha Beach has 14kms of beautiful white sand and with crystal clear water, it makes it the perfect spot to come and relax and swim. You’ll often find good surf here and there are lifeguards on duty during the summer months.
If you’re keen for a wander, you can explore the rocks at low tide on the south end of the beach. There’s also a nice viewpoint if you climb up the hill.
There’s toilets, BBQ’s and a playground by the Surf Life Saving Club.

Walk down the little sandy walkways and you’ll be greeted by lovely, rolling waves, the blue ocean and soft, squeaky sand beneath your feet. There’ll be plenty of locals going for their morning or afternoon walk along the long beach and lots of sandcastle makers at work, making use of the beautiful sand and seashells. In the water, you’ll see families enjoying the water, especially if it’s a warm weekend day and a few surfers if the surf is good that day. Everyone at the beach, not worried about the time, more set on having a good time with the people they’re with. It’s a wonderful vibe.
Walking across the rocks, we made it to a small beach they often refer to as ‘Pink Beach’ because the sand has a pink tint to it.
We even found a cool little swing to have a play on – even if it was a bit uncomfortable.
Looking closely, we found lots of cool and interesting sea creatures hiding.
At the end of the beach, you’ll find a little track heading upwards, it’s steep and can get muddy but you’ll be rewarded with quite the view.
The water was just so beautiful and clear and had the most perfect little sets of waves rolling in.
The beach was covered with lots of different shells, the kids didn’t have enough arms to hold them all with. We went back to the sandcastle we made and continued decorating it with them.
There’s a playground, BBQ’s, a few shops and surf life-saving club at the parking.
