About | Oakley Creek Waterfall
The Oakley Creek Waterfall is a little oasis amongst the hustle and bustle of city life. It’s an easy and relaxing stroll next to a beautiful stream and to the 6-metre high waterfall. The Oakley Creek Waterfall is New Zealand’s highest urban waterfall and the only waterfall in central Auckland. It becomes a hot spot in the summer time, with people jumping in from the edge, but check SafeSwim for any health warnings about swimming here.
Great North Road is a busy road but there are several parks/reserves you can start from, which provide parking. Our favourite is at Waterview Reserve, where they have a nice playground, pump track and skate park. Leave your bikes though as there’ll be a few stairs along the track.
Once you’re off the road, you’ll go straight into the bush where there is lots of native and exotic flora and fauna. If you’re lucky you might be able to spot the threatened New Zealand longfin eel in the creek that runs alongside the track. There are a few bridges crossing the river, have the kids grab some sticks and then have fun racing them down the creek.

We parked at Waterview Reserve which is a family favourite. There’s a great playground, a skatepark and pump track. After a good play, we then headed off onto our walk, going under the motorway bridges.
Playing in the rocks under the bridge.
Walk over the bridge across the busy Great North Road.
And straight into the bush.
