About | Ambury Farm Regional Park
Ambury Regional Park is a working farm, with a cow milking shed, horses, goats, pigs and sheep as well as guinea pigs, rabbits and an insect garden. The kids will love seeing all of the animals and patting them as they go. Learn more about how they milk cows on the information boards and see if you can spot any insects crawling around in the insect garden. There are also short walks with harbour views to be enjoyed.
Come and enjoy a nice day with the family. For us, Ambury Regional Park is pretty high up there in the must do’s of Auckland. It’s a working farm that you can walk around at your leisure, pat and interact with the friendly farm animals and what’s better, it’s all free.
Tips before you go
- Download the map of Ambury Farm Regional Park.
- Bring a picnic to enjoy at one of the picnic tables or lay a blanket out.
- Bikes are allowed on some of the tracks – there’s a short 15-minute ride or carry on onto Otuataua Stonefields Historic Reserve on the WaterCare Coastal Walkway for something longer.
- Don’t forget the camera!

Our experience
We headed out on a cold and foggy winter morning and expected a few horses, cows and sheep, but what we found was so much more! As soon as we parked up we were greeted by the sheep and the kids loved that they were so friendly.
Family Farm Walk
Walk around the different paddocks and stop to say hello to the friendly animals. It was really foggy and we had a hard time figuring out which paddock to check out next but we had fun finding our way through the maze of paddocks in the thick fog.
Our boys thought it was pretty cool being able to pat these guys. They are so gentle and friendly.
Insect Garden
We had a little look around in the Insect Garden but all of the insects were hiding that day.
Foreshore Walk
The Foreshore Walk goes along the Manukau Harbour but because it was so foggy we couldn’t really enjoy the views. It was a nice walk anyway, we followed the cut up carrots (they were spread out along the track) – someone’s gonna have a full tummy tonight!
On a clear day, you would be able to see out over the Manukau Harbour but on this day there was so much fog we could only see a few meters ahead of us.
Along the track is a Maori pa site and it was here that we found the Kiwi Guardian post. On a nice day, this would make a pretty nice spot to enjoy the view.
Kiwi Guardians
Our kids love going on Kiwi Guadian excursions and earning their medals (they love getting mail!). I think they’re great, it helps them take in their surroundings, learn and have fun along the way. If you haven’t heard about it already you can learn about it here. It’s a fantastic way to get kiwi kids outdoors more.
Conclusion
We all loved Ambury Park and will definitely be back to pat the animals some more. How can you not love the farm animals!
