About | Lyall Bay

Lyall Bay is a popular beach being right next to town. It’s well known for its good swell and therefore popular with the surfers and also boogie boarders. It’s also great for swimming with surf lifesavers in the summer months. Swimming in the middle of the beach is recommended as occasionally rips will form around the headlands. The beach gently slopes into the ocean giving the kids lots of room to splash and play in the shallow water.

Pack a picnic and book and relax by the beach while the kids play in the sand, make sandcastles or go for a play on the playground. Bring the dogs, too. Dogs are allowed at the eastern end of the beach (by the airport). Watching the planes come in and go off at the airport can be entertaining for the kids, too.

Parking: find parking along the beachfront, along Lyall Bay Parade.

Toilets / changing rooms: at Lyall Bay Surf Club. Changing rooms are closed in winter, 1 June – 31 August.

Dogs: eastern end: off-leash. Western end: not allowed. Refer to the map.
