About | Taupo Debretts Hot Springs

Find relaxation at Taupo Debretts Hot Springs, surrounded by native bush and beautiful tropical palms. The mineral-rich water will help relax muscles, increase blood circulation and eliminate toxins.

There are two big mineral pools that range in temperatures of 38 to 41°C, the water comes from a geothermal spring where it’s cooled down but still holds those mineral-rich components that you’ll love. The two small spas overlook most of the pools, relax, while still keeping an eye on things and always make sure the kids are being supervised closely by an adult.

There’s a cold pool – this one you can actually put your head under – the kids love this! The water play area is popular with kids, too.

There are three hydro slides. A dragon slide and two heated curved racing slides. Must be at least 1.2 meters tall and less than 90kgs to use them.

There are loungers, BBQ facilities (for hire), picnic tables, lockers as well as cubby holes for you to store your stuff.

On your way back up to the car park, there is a little shop where you can enjoy an ice cream or grab something small to eat.

You can also stay at Taupo Debretts Holiday Park which offers a range of accommodation options from deluxe family units to campsites. Guests at the holiday park get a discount on waterpark entry – yay!

Please note:

  • you are advised not to put your head under the water in two of the thermally heated pools though you can do this in the cold pool.
  • there are no toddler pools.

Photos

While we stayed at the amazing Taupo Debretts accommodation, we had a 3-day pass to the pools and could access them anytime we wanted which was totally amazing. After a day of being out and about it’s nice to come back and relax in the pools – it was actually one of the highlights for the kids (and a bit of a struggle to get them to leave)!

So there are three main pools, all varying in temperature. There was a hot, warm and cold one. The hot one was way too hot on a summers day, but early or late in the day can be quite nice. Would be fantastic on a cold winters day! We mostly relaxed in the warm pool, but the kids had a fascination with the cold pool and immensely enjoyed going between the warm and cold pool.

There were two spas but they weren’t operating while we were there.

First mineral pool

This is the pool that we would have spent the most time in – it was nice and warm and the perfect temperature.

Photos are from the two times that we went. One early in the morning and one in the late afternoon. Both times were nice and quiet and in the morning the air was cool and steamy.

This was my favourite part! You can lye down, rest your head and enjoy the sensation of the water bubbling around you. Heaven.

Second mineral pool (the warmest)

We didn’t actually spend too much time in this pool because it was sooooo hot. Nice for some, but in summer, we preferred the other ones.

Cold pool

Nice on a hot summer’s day and a favourite for the kids!

The water play area

The kids loved the water play area, going down the slide, running through the cold water and waiting for the bucket to fill up and tip over on them. The times that we visited the pools were either early in the morning or late in the afternoon so we didn’t know how the kids did it – it was quite cold!
