About | Tane Mahuta Walk

The Tane Mahuta Walk is so nice and easy – anyone can do it. It’s pushchair friendly and takes only two minutes to see the spectacular and legendary Tane Mahuta.

Just how big is it? Tane Mahuta is a total height of 51.5metres and its trunks girth is 13.8 metres. It is estimated to be around 2000 years old! Wow!

There are benches for you to sit and be amazed.

No food or water allowed on the track.

Drop-in at the Tane Cafe for a nibble for the road.

Please clean your shoes and the cleaning stations before and after you enter the Tane Mahuta Walk to help protect kauri trees from kauri dieback.

We were so happy to have finally checked this off the list. It’s one of the things you just have to do while passing through and being only two minutes – why not. Having walked through the Trounson Kauri Park and been amazed by all of the kauris, seeing this one was like putting the cherry on the top.
