About | Karekare Falls

The Karekare Falls are only a short 5-minute walk away from the Karekare Beach. Park at the beach, walk over the bridge and you’ll find the start of the Karekare Falls track. It winds you through native bush, past a smaller waterfall and waterhole than to the larger, more impressive falls. It’s a great swimming spot in the summer.

It’s also a popular photo spot but wait your turn and you can get that perfect photo of you and your family with the falls in the background.

For a harder walk, the 30-minute Taraire Track will take you to the top. There’s a nice swimming spot at the top, so bring your swimming togs if it’s a nice day.

Don’t forget to check out Karekare Beach, a wild black sand beach surrounded by huge cliffs. Then, stop in at the Arataki Centre on your way back home.
