About | Long Bay Regional Park Coastal Track

Walk or bike the Long Bay Regional Park Coastal Track that’ll take you along the coast and end at the Okura River. You’ll walk past Granny’s Bay and then Pohutukawa Bay along the way which are both beautiful beaches to stop off at, bring a picnic to enjoy under the shade of a pohutukawa tree. You can walk along the coastline if you prefer, at low tide.

There are a few hilly parts along this track so if the kids are bringing the bikes make sure they’re okay with hills. Otherwise, it’s a really nice track to bike – my boys really enjoyed the downhill parts and would walk back up just to do it all over again.

There are some beautiful views along the coastal track and even if you don’t want to go to the very end, the most scenic part is at the start, as you visit both Granny’s Bay and Pohutukawa Bay. The quickest and easiest way to get to Granny’s Bay is along the rocks, though it’ll need to be at low tide.

3 hours return. 6km.

On the way back, the boys enjoyed a quick ride along the beach, climbed trees and had a snack before heading back on the track and going home.
