About | McLaren Falls Park
McLaren Falls Park is beautiful 190-hectare parkland, set beside the tranquil Lake McLaren and is just ten minutes away from the Tauranga city centre. The park showcases some of the best botanical collections of trees in the North Island. The park is popular for bush walks, picnics, fishing, camping, kayaking, disc golf, summertime concerts and small wedding ceremonies.
Another really cool thing about this park is that you can see glow worms after dusk. Bring your torches and head out to the waterfall.
Trout fishing is year-round in Lake McLaren and the Ruahihi Canal, just don’t forget that you’ll need a license which you can get online.
You’ll also see that the Marshalls Animal Park is accessed through the park which the kids would really enjoy as well.
The gates are open:
Summer: 7.30am – 7.30pm – when daylight saving starts
Winter: 7.30am – 5.30pm – when daylight saving ends
After closing time, the gates will still open for outgoing vehicles so you can stay for the glow worms.
There are 300 roaming sheep around the park so no dogs are allowed.
Facilities: toilets, the Falls cafe and there are electric BBQs set throughout the park.
McLaren Falls
The McLaren Falls are on the way to McLaren Falls Park, and are situated right by the road.
Note: During summer, there can be hardly any water flowing through so don’t be disappointed if you don’t see any after a couple of weeks of no rain. Visit after rainfall or when water is released from the dam by checking on TrustPower.
