About | Oriental Bay Beach

Oriental Bay Beach is a small city beach located close to town making it very popular. The gentle slope out to sea makes it a very good swimming spot for families. Or head to the western end and jump in from the wave platform there. The beach is patrolled by Surf Lifeguards during the summer months.

If swimming isn’t for you, walking along the promenade is also a popular choice. Bring the skates or hire some and go for a walk or ride along the coast.

At the western end of the beach, you’ll find lots of fun options. Let the kids play at the playground, go in for a swim at the Freyberg swimming pool or find something to eat, there’s even a restaurant on a tug boat!

Toilets and changing facilities can be found by the Freyberg Pool and Fitness Centre.

Parking: along Oriental Parade or there’s a car park beside Freyberg Pool and Fitness Centre.

Dogs: only from 1 May – 31 October. Refer to the map.
