About | Waipu Beach

Waipu Beach is fantastic for swimming, surfing and fishing. Explore the rock pools or go for a walk along this long, beautiful beach. Busy during the summer months.

At the southern end of Waipu Beach, you’ll find a little stream and this spot is great for families. The stream is nice and safe for young children to play and can be shallow during low tide, though it will get a bit deeper during high tide. Older children that are more confident in the water can go and enjoy the waves with their boogie boards, it’s lots of good fun!

Waipu Beach is patrolled by Surf Lifesavers from the Waipu Cove Surf Life Saving Club during the summer months.

There is a campground right by the beach.

Toilets, BBQ area, playground and boat ramp available.

No rubbish bins – please take your rubbish with you.

Our experience

We came to Waipu Beach in the summer, it was a nice and warm day – perfect for a swim. But we were hungry from being on the road so after finding a parking spot at the end of the beach, by the stream, we grabbed the picnic mat from the back of the ute and some lunch and enjoyed laid it down by the stream before packing it away and heading towards the beach. The kids were in their wetsuits and waded through the stream, where they found a rope swing tied to the tree which provided lots of fun.

They then ventured on, grabbing their boogie boards and riding the waves. They loved it! We later walked further up the beach and enjoyed some more swimming, then got dry and went to explore the Pancake Rocks. Check it out if you’re in the area.
