About | Wenderholm Regional Park
Wenderholm Regional Park is a popular spot for picnics, BBQ’s and swimming. On a nice, warm summer’s day this place will be packed and it’s quite easy to see why. The grounds are beautiful, with plenty of nice shady spots to lay down the picnic blanket and prepare lunch while the kids throw the frisbee around. There are plenty of trees around that a great for climbing and there’s lots of space to kick a ball around. The estuary is a great place to kayak at high tide.
There are changing room and toilet facilities, a boat ramp and a campsite. Grill up a few sausages on one of the BBQ’s in the park. There are also a few picnic tables.
While you’re there, check out the Couldrey House, a beautiful historic homestead which is open to the public from 1 – 4pm during the weekend or every afternoon from Boxing Day to Easter Monday. There is a small entrance fee to enter.
There are also some good walking options in the area. Walks range from 15 minutes – 2.5 hours. Bush walks take you through native bush and some have great views.
There are no rubbish bins at Wenderholm – take your rubbish with you.
Gate opening hours: Daylight savings (summer): 6.00am – 9.00pm / Non daylight savings (winter): 6.00am – 7.00pm

It was a beautiful crisp, autumn day, we had brought some food and enjoyed it under the shade of the pohutukawa trees. The kids had a little climb, running from tree to tree, finding the best tree to climb.
We then headed to the beach and though it was too cold to swim that day, the kids loved playing in the sand and finding shells.
Since we had come in autumn, there were piles of fallen leaves by the trees at the entrance of the park. The kids loved playing in them and climbing these huge and majestic trees. There were toilet facilities here and a picnic table.

Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi Track
It was a beautiful day that we set out on the Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi Track. It was a 1.5hour walk and we were rewarded with some pretty amazing views overlooking the Puhoi Estuary, Mahurangi Regional Park in the distance and the Hauraki Gulf. There were small information boards along the way with snippets of information for the kids.
Te Akeake Walk
Not wanting to walk far, we choose to go on a nice and easy walk along the beach and estuary. It was soothing walking by the clear blue water and along the estuary we came across lots of couples and families that were going in for an early morning swim or setting out their day setups. There are lot of great grassy spots along the estuary to set up a picnic or pull out the camp chairs and a book and watch the day go by. There were a few people heading out on their boats, others on kayaks and a young family were trying their luck out on the jetty.
