About | Mangawhai Heads Beach

Mangawhai Heads Beach is an absolutely stunning beach, fantastic for sunbathing in the sun, swimming, surfing and fishing. It’s great on a nice summer’s day, but also very popular. Though there is a big car park, it will fill up quite fast during peak times, and the road connecting to it has yellow lines along it so you can’t park along there either. Prepare to go early or later during these times so you don’t have to wait for a park.

When you arrive, you’ll see a big white clay formation by the car park, the kids will love playing and sliding down this! Stand on the top and you can check out the whole beach. Rolling waves coming in, rocks to explore, sandcastles to make, a lovely view of Chicken and Hens Island, and a stunning white sand beach to enjoy. Add in a nice summers day and you can’t get any better than this. Don’t forget the sunblock!

Bring the boogie board and surf the waves. The waves a perfect for beginner surfers. If you’re looking for a more peaceful and safe swim, go around to the harbour.

Walk along Mangawhai Heads Beach and you’ll come across a big sand dune, the kids are going to love running up and down this thing! Put the boogie board to use and slide down it.

There are lifeguards on patrol during the summer months. The one thing this beach might be missing is shady spots, so bring the umbrella if you want.

If you enjoy walking, the Mangawhai Cliffs Walkway starts at the end of the beach. It’s two hours of amazing views at the top, then rocky coastline down the bottom, just go at low tide.

They also have lovely toilet facilities.
