About | Omamari Beach

Omamari Beach is a wild west coast beach and one of New Zealand’s longest, being more than 100 kilometres long, making it a 4wder’s dream. Many play on the sand with their motorbikes and quad bikes and people who have a 4×4 can get offroad and find a good spot along the beach to go surfcasting or simply explore this expansive and stunning beach. Omamari Beach is lined with enormous sand dunes so finding a good spot to explore shouldn’t be too hard. Get yourself set up for the day and then watch the day come to an end with a stunning sunset. Great for a swim on a good day, too!

From the parking, you’ll need to cross the stream to get to the other side so keep your shoes in the car.

Basic toilets. Freedom camping spot.

We had been spending a blissful weekend away at the Pine Beach Campground at Kai Iwi Lakes and this was the perfect addition to it. Hopping in the car we headed off down the road in search of the beautiful Omamari Beach. We had come on such a fine day and decided to go for a little wander down the long stretch of beach and check out the sand dunes. Being on foot we only walked so far but a 4wd would have made it even better. Needless to say, this was a wonderful beach and great way to end the day.

Walking past the shallow stream, there were a few other kids running through it with their boogie boards in hand.
