About | Forestry Beach, Te Arai

Forestry Beach is neighbour to the more popular Te Ari Beach. But with Te Arai becoming more well known each summer, this is a great retreat for those wanting a little more privacy.

It’s a bit of a drive out of Auckland but head out to one of the other beautiful beaches in the area in addition to this and make a day of it. Forestry Beach is more unknown than it’s more popular surrounding beaches but it just makes this more of a hidden gem.

The signage to get there isn’t great, the road is gravel and with lots of potholes, making it a bumpy and dusty journey. Not campervan material but great if you have a 4w4.

But after the bumpy ride, you’ll be welcomed by a beautiful beach, more remote than it’s neighbour but still a winner. The water is nice and clear with good sets of swell coming in. Bring your surf or boogie boards for some fun riding the waves.

Head over to the northern end of the beach to explore the rocks at low tide but bring some shoes if you plan on going rock exploring – they’re sharp.

There are no facilities here so bring what you need.

Dogs allowed.

With our kids, one of the things we must do when we go to a beach is to explore the rocks. These rocks are pretty sharp though so bring some water shoes with you if you’re keen rock explorers like us!
